Unit Introduction:

The Animals facility Unit of Ain Shams Medical Research Center (MASRI) is considered one of the distinguished units at the level of Ain Shams University. The unit offerrs housing and breeding of experimental animals needed for various scientific researches. It provides its services to Egyptian universities, whether governmental or private as shown in the diagrams

Many services are conducted by the unit for example; Induction of different animal models of diseases, Introduction of medicines by different route to the animals to treat infectious and non-infectious diseases, observing and caring for animals during the experiment, taking different required samples either blood or tissue

Surgical intervention is performed in a well-equipped theater by a qualified vet, on various species of small animals, such as albino mice, albino rats, New Zealand and Indian rabbits. The guidelineses of ethics for scientific research are followed as regards dealing with animals in terms of care and nutrition. The use of anesthetics in specific doses and animal care with analgesics and various antibiotics whether it is local or general.

Workshops were conducted for training of medical students on all types of animal injection methods and how- to take blood and tissue samples. We also seek to conduct practical endoscopic workshops.

2. Housing mice, rats, hamsters and rabbits for many researchers in different faculties.

Surgical operations on animals are done by highly qualified vetererian doctors

1. Conduct Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic studies in different animal species.
2. Conduct Safety and Toxicity studies for new drug molecules.
3. Induce different animal models of diseases.
