Unit Introduction:

  • Our center was founded in August 2016 in Ain Shams University Hospitals as a specialized unit under the umbrella of the National Committee for Control of Viral Hepatitis (NCCVH).
  • The center aims for screening programmes, providing treatment and regular follow up for all patients with viral hepatitis, especially HCV, in addition to continuous research as regard HCV antiviral therapy and spreading awareness among different populations.

Activities:

  1. We follow up the patient (clinically and by laboratory tests) after each dose of treatment till end of treatment and also including HCV-PCR test till cure of patients.
  2. Follow-up after cure of patients every three months and for a year and two years after the end of treatment
  3. More than one specialized clinic has been

developed in the unit for special populations to include (regular HCV clinic/ neuro-psychiatric and addictive clinic/ HCV-HBV co-infection clinic

/ geriatrics clinic/ dermatology clinic / cardiac clinic / nephrology clinic / hepatic focal lesions and oncology clinic/ relapsers patients / hematology clinic / Advanced fibrosis clinic) to serve all HCV patients.

  1. Setting numbers of meeting with staff members and students of Ain shams university to increase knowledge about HCV transmission, manifestations and treatment.
  2. Screening programmes including:
 
   
  • National screening programme (as: Ismailia government, Damitta government, Zaytoun area,...).
  • Screening of all Ain shams hospitals staff.
  • Screening of all Ain shams university staff.
  • First year university students (Also by sending mobile teams to different faculties).
  1. A protocol of treatment was made for patients with psychiatric and addiction hospitals in Great Cairo.
  2. We Participated in the presidential initiative to eliminate HCV and detection of non-communicable diseases.
  3. A survey was conducted for the hospital's inpatients.
  4. HCV cases have been received from foreign refugees. Investigations were done including HCV-PCR analysis and treatment given to positive cases.
  5. Hepatocellular carcinoma screening specially for cirrhotic patients with further plans for suspicious cases (using CT or MRI at Ain Shams University Hospitals) and management of confirmed cases.
  6. Positive cases are referred from blood banks to fulfill investigations and treatment of infected cases.
  7. During “100 Million Healthy Lives” presidential initiative, the center had significant contribution in patients’ treatment and follow up through numerous general and specialized clinics.
    • Screening points were made in the hospital for screening and another in the university cities of Ain Shams University.
